Zee Toys is a trademark of Zyll Enterprise Ltd. of Hong Kong. Some of the other brand names their products have been sold under include Z-Wheels, Zylmex, Intex (not all Intex toys were made by Zyll) and private labels such as some "Fast Lane" vehicles sold by Toys R Us and some "Great Gifts" vehicles sold by Target. In the '70s, some Sears "Road Mates" cars were made by Zyll.
Intex was the only importer of Zee Toys to the US until 1993. Some Zee Toys / Zylmex products are currently being sold in the US by Motormax. Also note that while Zee Toys and Zylmex are no longer being produced, The Intex Corp. is still in the business. In addition to Intex Corp., Zee Toys have also been carried by a Ductch Licensee, Edocar.
Zylmex models are the oldest and most valued die-cast toys produced by Zyll Enterprise Ltd. Even the earliest Zylmex models were designated with a "D" preceding the model number on the base, and many were later reissued as Zee Toys Dynawheels. They had 2 lines:
Dynawheels - less expensive, less detailed toy vehicles with plastic bases and no working parts
Pacesetters - more detailed toy cars usually produced with opening doors and die-cast metal bases.
Many of the old Zee Toys Pacesetters and Dynawheels castings are still available as Motormax models, in many cases with original model number still imprinted on the base, although only Pacesetters bear any description of the vehicle they represent.
